Moscow. September 20. INTERFAX.RU — the world wildlife Fund intends to press charges against the authorities of the German city of Lebus for the murder of wild European bison, according to British newspaper The Independent.

According to the newspaper, the bison were observed on 13 September at the river Oder in Lebus, 88 km from Berlin. Bison could wander on the banks of the river from the Polish national Park Ujście-the Warta river, which is on the border with Germany.

The local authorities decided that the animal is a danger and decided to kill the bison.

“After more than 250 years in Germany found wild bison and all I can think of power is to shoot him,” said the member of the Fund Chris Heinrich.

On its website, the Foundation indicates that the behavior of the bison “is not dangerous to humans.”

Bison is included in the “Red list” of International Union for conservation of nature. The animal was distributed throughout Western, Central and South-Eastern Europe, however, by the end of the XIX century its population survived only in the Belovezhskaya Pushcha and the Caucasus. In 1927 the species was declared extinct in the wild. He remained in the reserves in Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia and Slovakia.

Now the European bison living in captivity in 30 countries.
