At least 17 children have been poisoned due to the emission of gas from oil wells

Oil well in the Orenburg region there was a depressurization, which was accompanied by emissions of hydrogen sulfide. About it reports a press-service of the regional emergency Department.

The incident happened at well number 1105-2, which is located 32 km South of Orenburg, in the night of Wednesday, September 20. The representative of “Gazprom oil” told RBC that this well belongs to the “daughter” of “Gazprom Neft Orenburg”.

As noted in the emergency, about five hours after the depressurization, the accident was eliminated. After the incident in the hospital began to arrive with poisoning local residents. According to sources TASS and “RIA Novosti”, with signs of intoxication in a medical institution were sent to 19 children.

In the emergency room of city clinical hospital № 6 RBC Orenburg confirmed the fact of poisoning people with hydrogen sulfide. “17 people do right now,” — said in the hospital.

Head of energy program Greenpeace Vladimir Chuprov said that this gas is dangerous because it affects the Central nervous system. “With a high dose of the person can faint. There have been deaths, all depends on the dose,” said Chuprov.

According to him, this is not the first case when there is a release of hydrogen sulfide in the oil industry. He recalled about the accident on the field. Albulina in the Komi Republic, owned by “LUKOIL”. “Hit two villages, located in 7 and 8 km away [from the field]. Primarily affects pregnant women, children — it’s such a gas attack.
