The Syrian army has liberated from the militants part of the Deir ez-Zor

The Syrian army and allied forces liberated from the militants of the terrorist group “Islamic state” (IG banned in Russia) in the South-East of Deir ez-Zor. On Sunday, September 17, reports RIA Novosti citing a source in the headquarters operations of the city.

“The army came to the Euphrates, freeing the areas of Mariia and Huveydzhat, Marie. The East side of the rebels driven from the airbase more than five kilometers,” — said the Agency interlocutor. He added that the gunmen fled in the direction Madina, the terrorists crossed the Euphrates and took refuge in the Northern part of Deir-ez-Zor.

On 14 September it became known that Russia plans in coming days to end fighting with groups supporting the militants from the Islamic state in Syria.

Two days earlier, the Russian military, reported on the cleanup of 85 percent of Syrian territory from the militants.

A week before it became known that the Syrian army broke the siege of Deir ez-Zor. For three years the city was completely surrounded by the terrorists. Despite the regular attacks of insurgents using suicide and car bombs, the garrison of Deir ez-Zor kept the defense, occasionally counterattacking terrorists. Supply the city’s defenders and civilian population were carried out through an air corridor.

In Syria since 2011, the confrontation of President Bashar al-Assad and rebels seeking his overthrow. The conflict escalated into full-scale civil war, which strengthened the terrorist organization, including Islamic state.
