INTERFAX.RU — the Russian and Belarusian military during the first stage of the exercises “West-2017” worked planning a defensive battle, said the Deputy head of the General staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation — the head of the doctrine of the Russian Federation in Belarus, Colonel-General Sergei Ostrakov.
“In the first phase, which ended today (Saturday — if), had worked out the planning of the defensive battle. The staffs and the troops showed a high level of proficiency and their ability to accomplish their mission. Between the armed forces of the Federal States is achieved closely,” said Istratov.
Istratov together with the chief of the General staff of the Armed Forces of Belarus — first Deputy Minister of defence of Republic the General-major Oleg Belokonev — called for the control tank army of the Western military district and heard a report of the commander of the Union the General-Lieutenant Alexey Avdeev on the implementation of the first phase of the exercise.
To participate in the practices of the joint strategic exercises “West-2017” on the territory of Belarus from the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation is involved about 3 thousand servicemen, military and special equipment, as noted in the defense Ministry.
The first stage of the exercise took place from 14 to 16 September. The second started on Sunday and will last until September 20. It will be devoted to the reflection of aggression against the Union state.
