Tillerson remembered the trips to Moscow in the 1990s

U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson told the staff of the American Embassy in London about his trips to Moscow in the early 1990-ies. The text of his speech on Thursday, September 14, published the press service of the state Department.

Tillerson remembered that in a former Exxon employee moved from one country to another, in particular, lived in Yemen and Russia. “I didn’t have protection, meanwhile, the Yemen wasn’t the best place to take my family, as Moscow was not the best place to take my family there in the early 90s,” he said.

The Department has supported working in the UK American diplomats, noting that he is aware of the sacrifice that brings each of them. “I know about family holidays that you miss home,” he added.

Before being appointed to the US government Tillerson for 11 years held the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors and the CEO of the oil company ExxonMobil. In 2012 the decree of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin was awarded the order of Friendship. The year before Exxon signed the agreement with “Rosneft”.

In the early 1990s, Tillerson was a representative of Exxon in Russia. He worked in particular on the agreement on the establishment of an international consortium to develop oil and gas fields “Sakhalin-1”.
