Statements by the US state Department on the necessity of placing UN peacekeepers on the border of Russia and Ukraine are anti-Russian, said the Chairman of the Duma Committee on international Affairs Leonid Slutsky. His words leads TASS on Thursday, September 14.

“Thus, the United States emphasizes that Russia needs to talk about the country-the threat to Ukraine, on the border with which to place the “blue helmets” of the UN. And it is not so,” said the MP, Recalling that Russia is not a party to domestic conflict.

Slutsky said that Moscow is not against the UN peacekeeping force in the South-East of Ukraine, but only if it is used “to ensure the safety of the OSCE mission”.

The head of the press service of the U.S. Department of state Heather Nauert said that peacekeeping forces in the zone of armed conflict in the Donbass should be placed, in particular, on the Russian-Ukrainian border. Acting Minister of foreign Affairs of the breakaway Lugansk national Republic (LNR) Vladislav Danego opposed this initiative.

On 11 September the President of Russia Vladimir Putin has invited German Chancellor Angela Merkel to place UN peacekeepers not just along the disengagement line in Donbass, as well as “other places where the SMM, the OSCE conducts its inspection trip”.
