The defense Ministry has called the loss of the Soviet Union in Cuba during the Cuban missile crisis

The Ministry of defence for the first time released official data on casualties among Soviet citizens in Cuba during the acute phase of the Cuban missile crisis. A message posted on the official website of the defense Ministry.

“The exact number of losses of Soviet troops during the operation, was not formally published. According to the defense Ministry of the Russian Federation from August 1, 1962 to 16 August 1964 in Cuba killed 64 Soviet citizens”, — reads the statement of the press service.

Exactly 55 years ago, on 9 September 1962, as part of the secret operation “Anadyr” Cuba had delivered the first Soviet ballistic missiles, and then of the Soviet Union brought nuclear warheads to them.

The report said that in the Caribbean Republic, the Soviet leadership sent two types of ballistic medium-range missiles R-12, the radius of which exceeds 2 thousand km, and R-14 with a radius of more than 4 thousand km and a nuclear warhead by power in 1 megaton. In total, the plans of Moscow to place in Cuba 40 missiles: 24 units P-12 and 16 R-14.
