The first flight from Japan to the Kuril Islands is scheduled for September 23-24

The first flight from Japan to the Kuril Islands, is not held in may due to bad weather, plan to perform on 23-24 September, reported RIA Novosti Director of the company-operator of visa-free exchanges “the South Kuril Docker” Alexander Vygovsky.

“On 23-24 September is planned the first flight from Japan to the Kuril Islands, which were not held in may due to weather conditions,” — said the Agency interlocutor.

The first flight was scheduled for 17 may. Turboprop aircraft far Eastern airline “Aurora” was in the airport of the Japanese city of Nakashibetsu, ready to go. However, a historical event then prevented thick fog enveloped the Kuril Islands.

It is expected that on Board the aircraft to the Kuril Islands arrive 70 former residents of the Kuril Islands from Japan. They will visit their former place of residence and burial of their ancestors. Half of them will remain on Kunashir, where the airplane will land, the other half of the delegation of the sea takes on Iturup.

So far for these trips were used Maritime transport, but in April of this year during the visit of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Moscow, an agreement was reached on granting the former residents of the South Kuril Islands to visit them by plane.

The transfer of Japan of Islands of Kunashir, Iturup, Shikotan and Habomai Tokyo is put forward as conditions for the conclusion with Russia the peace Treaty. The position of Moscow consists that southern Kuriles became part of the Soviet Union at the end of the Second world war and the Russian sovereignty over them has the appropriate international legal registration and not be questioned.
