Merkel does not see Turkey in the EU
The Chancellor said that it did not intend to sever diplomatic relations with Ankara.
BERLIN, September 3. /TASS/. German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Turkey has no place now in the European Union.
“I don’t see Turkey in the EU and never seen,” she said Sunday during a debate with candidate for the post of Prime Minister, German social Democrat Martin Schulz.
According to her, Germany can respond to the recent detention of German citizens in Turkey and the deteriorating relations “by means of economic measures.”
She believes that “mind-blowing Turkey away from Europe.”
“I’m not going to sever diplomatic relations with Turkey,” — said Merkel, commenting on the future development of relations between the two countries. Merkel has stated that he does not campaign rhetoric a justification for ill-conceived actions.
