Consulate General of Russia in San Francisco (California) will stop accepting visitors from 1 September in connection with the requirement of the US authorities to close the Embassy. Information about this posted on the main page of the website of the Consulate General.

It is clarified that issuance of passports will be made until 13:00 Friday.

Earlier on August 31 it became known that the USA has demanded from Russia to close the Consulate General in San Francisco. Also need to stop working two consular facility in Washington and new York. The decision must be executed before September 2.

Later the White house clarified that we are talking about buildings of the Russian trade representation. While the administration of U.S. President said that the question of reducing the number of staff and the expulsion of Russian diplomats home is not.

The Consul General of Russia in San Francisco Sergey Petrov said that the US decision to close the diplomatic mission in this city is deplorable. According to him, this decision “hurt the interests of the Russian citizens living in the region, which was the responsibility of the Consulate General, and American citizens who also was often addressed in our Consulate General about many issues, including for obtaining a Russian visa”.
