Syrian democratic forces (SDF), backed by the US, liberated from the militants banned the “Islamic state” (IG) old town of Raqqa. About it informs Reuters.
“We inform our people that liberated the old city of Raqqa,” reads the official statement of the SDF, which include the Kurdish forces and the forces of the Syrian opposition, hostile to the Islamists.
The headquarters of the US-led coalition is not yet confirmed, citing the lack of reliable information on the channels.
To date, according to the SDF, they managed to take control of about 65 per cent of Raqqa. ISIS continues to hold Western areas of the city.
The assault on Raqqa is from June. The liberation of the city is one of the main goals of the international antiterrorist coalition headed by USA, the leading military operations against extremists in Iraq and Syria. Coalition aircraft regularly strikes the city, leading to the deaths of dozens of civilians.
