Russia will not ask the US to lift sanctions, said Antonov

MOSCOW, 30 Jul — RIA Novosti. Russia will not ask the United States to lift the sanctions, but without this it is impossible to build an effective cooperation, said the new Russian Ambassador in Washington Anatoly Antonov.

“The lifting of the sanctions Russia has never asked and does not going to do that. While it is clear that we are talking about hostile behavior against our country,” said Antonov in interview to the newspaper “Kommersant”.

According to him, “whatever it was, it is obvious that to build an effective cooperation between Russia and the US will be able only when dialogue is no longer in use tools of pressure, will not blackmail and attempts to impose its will.”

Relations between Russia and the USA in recent times is seriously complicated. The administration of President Barack Obama at the end of December 2016, passed a package of anti-Russian sanctions because of alleged “interference in election” and “pressure on American diplomats” working in Russia. In addition, the United States imposed a number of sectoral and personal sanctions in connection with the situation in Ukraine.

The President of the United States Donald trump in August signed a law, suggesting the extension of sectoral sanctions against the Russian economy. In particular, it reduces the maximum term of financing of Russian banks under US sanctions, up to 14 days, oil and gas companies, up to 60 days (previously 30 days and 90 days, respectively).
