Putin called for an inclusive approach for efficient development of the Arctic

Russia in the implementation of plans for the development of the Arctic is ready for close cooperation with all stakeholders. This is stated in welcoming the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to participants and guests of the VII international meeting of the Arctic Council, observer States and foreign scientific community, according to Tassthe Wednesday, August 30.

The head of state noted the importance of an open approach. “An open, equitable, effective approach is necessary for effective economic development of the Arctic, to strengthen the international political, economic, and social dialogue aimed at addressing the pressing issues of the region,” the President said in the address, which was read by the Secretary of the Russian security Council Nikolai Patrushev.

The President added that Russia pays special attention to the protection of the unique natural environment of the North, distinctive culture and lifestyle of indigenous peoples. He called symbolic the fact that the meeting was held in the village of Sabetta, where completing a large-scale energy project “Yamal LNG”.

“This is a vivid example of mutually beneficial multilateral cooperation, respect for the fragile ecosystem of the Arctic. Only through collective efforts, considering the interests of all parties, we can move towards a sustainable security architecture in the Arctic to meet contemporary challenges” — concluded the Russian leader.

On 28 August, the Minister of natural resources Sergey Donskoy expressed the view that the Arctic on the implementation of environmental projects come to mind pristine. We are talking about initiated by Vladimir Putin projects to clean up the Islands of Franz Josef, Novaya Zemlya and other Arctic Islands. Will be cleansed and along the Northern coast of Russia, said Donskoy.
