The head of the main Directorate of the General staff of the Russian Armed forces Colonel-General Igor Korobov in round table on international military-technical forum “Army-2017” told about the number of militants taking part in the hostilities in Syria.
According to him, in the ranks of the terrorist group ISIS (banned in Russia) are fighting over 9 thousand fighters, they are scattered near the border with Iraq, said Korobov.
In part is prohibited on the territory of the Russian group “Dzhebhat EN-Nusra” “there are more than 15 thousand militants, most of them Syrians,” he said. This group controls part of Idlib province and conducts actions in the province of HOMS.
Colonel-General noted that Syria, a new Association of terrorist groups, its name — “Hayat Tahrir al-sham”, the number exceeds 25 thousand. The group originated after the merger, more than 70 previously disparate militant groups, said Igor Korobov.
