Austrian police announced the arrest of a gang of Chechens

Austrian police announced the arrest of nine members of an organized criminal group, which consisted of natives of Chechnya. On Friday, August 25, the newspaper Kurier.

Police special operation was held Wednesday in Vienna and lower Austria. On the detention of members of the group at a press conference on Friday said the interior Minister of the country Wolfgang Sobotka.

According to him, the operation was carried out 16 raids, during which police found weapons and drugs. Guards suspect detained in the creation of an organized criminal group which was engaged in fraud, arson, extortion and blackmail. It is also possible that they will be charged with illegal possession of weapons and drugs.

The interior Minister stressed that all the detainees had refugee status in Austria. Currently, the question of depriving the Chechens of this status.

In February of this year, Austrian police have detained 22 people from Chechnya in the district of Floridsdorf with arms and ammunition. Some of them had a case under article 278 of the Austrian Criminal code (participation in prohibited associations). However, later most of the detainees were released.
