MOSCOW, 19 Jul — RIA Novosti. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan harshly criticized the foreign Minister of Germany Sigmar Gabriel after he accused Erdogan of “gross interference” in the election campaign in the country, reports Agence France-Presse.

In Friday’s edition of Hurriyet Daily News wrote that Erdogan urged residents in Germany of Turkish origin not to vote in the upcoming election the current Chancellor of Germany and head of the party Alliance CDU/CSU Angela Merkel and leader of the Social democratic party (SPD) Martin Schulz. The foreign Minister of Germany Sigmar Gabriel described his call as “flagrant interference in the electoral campaign” in Germany.

Elections to the Bundestag will be held in Germany on September 24.

The relationship between the EU and Turkey deteriorated after an armed coup attempt in the country — the European Union criticized the subsequent reaction of the Turkish authorities, mass arrests and other measures Ankara has suspended preparations for the opening of new chapters of the negotiation file on the accession of Turkey to the European Union.
