Putin pardoned former Director of the mine “Ulyanovsk” where 110 people were killed

MOSCOW, 17 Aug — RIA Novosti. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree pardoning former Director of the mine “Ulyanovsk” in Kuzbas and in 2007, 110 people were killed; the relevant document is published on the official portal of legal information on Thursday.

The tragedy at the mine in Novokuznetsk district of Kemerovo region occurred on 19 March 2007 and became one of Russia’s largest accident of this kind in nearly 80 years. The Novokuznetsk district court on 10 April 2015 were convicted in the blast at the mine’s Director Andrew funk and his five subordinates. The cause of the accident was sentenced to imprisonment for periods ranging from three to six years. Later, the court reduced the time to three convicts for three months.

At the moment of explosion of methane gas underground there were 203 persons, including virtually the entire leadership of the mine and one foreigner. 93 people were rescued, 110 died.

The investigation of the incident revealed that the cause of the accident was the accumulation of methane sensors which were unauthorized reconfigured into smaller figures.

The gas ignited from a short circuit of electrical cables.

“Pardon funka Andrei Ivanovich, born in 1973, convicted on March 31, 2015 district court of Novokuznetsk of the Kemerovo region, freeing him from further serving of the penalty of deprivation of liberty. This decree shall enter into force ten days after its official publication,” — said in the text of the decree.
