Russia supports the trend of intensification of the processes of political settlement in Libya. This was stated by Russian foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the meeting with the commander of the Libyan national army, Marshal Khalifa the Haftarot.
According to him, the situation in Libya remains difficult. “But we know about those actions, and actively supported the trend towards the intensification of the processes of political settlement, full restoration of the statehood of your country”, — quotes RIA Novosti Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. “We know the effort, which aims to provide a generally acceptable agreement on the best acceptable to all ways of implementing Shirinskogo agreement,” said Lavrov.
According to him, all efforts to broker a settlement in Libya must be conducted on the basis of the United Nations. But key figures in Libya themselves have to agree on the future of the country. “This is our principled position,” — said Lavrov.
