Ukraine intends to increase the number of posts on the border with Russia

MOSCOW, 12 Aug — RIA Novosti. The new head of the border service of Ukraine Petro Cigital plans to increase the number of posts on the border of the country and to shorten the distance between them in accordance with European standards.

“We plan to strengthen our units between divisions of the border service, which are directly on the boundary line, in addition to create appropriate posts of the border, according to a European option. It’s somewhere at a distance of 15-20 miles should be directly between the border guards”, — he told on air of the Ukrainian “Fifth channel”.

Chekal noted that today the distance between border posts is 30 to 100 kilometers and more — this complicates the work of border security.

According to him, the main focus of the Agency has three sections: a common border with Russia, Belarus and Transnistria.

In 2015 the Ukrainian government of Arseniy Yatsenyuk approved the plan of measures on realization of the project “the Wall”, which involved the construction of powerful fortifications on the border with Russia. The project was designed for four years and had to manage the budget of 4.1 billion hryvnia (about us $ 150 million). Subsequently, however, the funding for 2015 and 2016 were cut by more than half. Ukrainian law enforcement authorities investigating a criminal case on the fact of embezzlement of state funds allocated for the implementation of the project.
