In Northwest China, an earthquake of magnitude 6.6

In the North-Western provinces of China Xinjiang on Wednesday morning, an earthquake of magnitude 6.6, reported by Reuters, citing Chinese authorities.

The tremors were recorded at 07:27 local time (02:27 MSK). The epicenter was located near the Chinese-Kazakh border. The earthquake lies at a depth of 11 kilometers. There were also recorded several aftershocks. No injuries were reported.

Agency “Kazinform” indicates that the tremors felt and residents of Almaty. Indicates that the intensity of the tremors in the city totaled four points on the MSK-64 scale.

Earlier it was reported that the number of victims of the earthquake in China’s Sichuan province has risen to nine, 164 people were injured. At least five dead tourists. The Chinese authorities reported that, of the potentially dangerous areas were evacuated 31 thousand 500 tourists. Local authorities have organized buses to evacuate people.

The earthquake occurred in Jiuzhaigou at 21:19 local time (16:19 MSK). In this district there is a reserve, known for its multi-level waterfalls and colorful lakes, and in 1992 it was declared a UNESCO world heritage site.
