In Latvia will forbid to pass school exams in Russian language

Centralized examinations in schools of national minorities of Latvia from next academic year, will pass only in the Latvian language, reports TASS. Students will not be able to choose the language exams.

It provide approved Tuesday at the session of the government of the Republic of changes in order to pass exams prepared by the Ministry of education and science.

Now all exam materials in Latvia are prepared in the state language, but the 9th and 12th grades of schools of national minorities have the right to choose the language of delivery — Latvian or Russian.

From 1 September 2004 in the Republic was implemented the education reform in minority schools. The result was introduced a bilingual system of education.

Earlier American research center RAND Corporation recommended that the authorities of the Baltic States to strengthen cooperation with Russian citizens, guaranteeing them the respect of all political and civil rights, as well as to establish a more effective dissemination of information in the Russian language.
