The Moscow city court suspended the expulsion of the Russian journalist of “Novaya Gazeta”

The Moscow city court decided to suspend the expulsion of the Russian journalist of “Novaya Gazeta” Ali Feruza.

The trial in the Moscow city court lasted two days: on Monday, the judge postponed the proceedings by requiring additional documents, and in particular, translation into Russian language of the decisions of the European court of human rights, resolved not to expel Feruza.

“I kept up with it communicate, possibly helped her. I couldn’t be there because I had no documents”, — said the journalist.

Last week the European court of human rights has forbidden Russia to expel in Uzbekistan the journalist “the New newspaper” Ali Feruza before his case will be considered in the ECHR. The request of the court related to the possibility that the applicant’s claim “would face a real risk of causing substantial and irreparable harm”.

The Case Of Feruza

Citizen of Uzbekistan Feruz Ali (real name Hudaberdi Nurmatov) detained on 1 August near the editorial office of “Novaya Gazeta”.

Police stopped the journalist to verify the documents. Feruz showed journalistic accreditation, but the police still took him to the Basmanny district police, from where delivered to the Basmanny court.

The evening of the same day, the court decided that Feruz has violated immigration laws and subject to deportation home. In addition, the journalist was ordered to pay a fine of 5 thousand rubles.
