U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson at a meeting with Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, which will be held in Manila, will seek common ground with Russia, said in an interview with CNN, U.S. permanent representative to the UN, Nikki Haley.
“This is a continuation of the attempts of the Secretary of state Tillerson — search for common ground with Russia. There are many issues on which we need to have a conversation with Russia, the fight against terrorism, response to the situation around North Korea, the crisis in Syria. So, I think, they will discuss these and many other questions. Our goal is to see what we can work together,” said Haley.
The Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson will meet Sunday in Manila on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit. This will be the first meeting between the Russian and American sides after the recent exchange of sanctions.
As expected, the main topic of the talks will be the crisis in Syria, as well as opportunities for Russian-American cooperation in this country. It is not excluded that the parties also discussed other international issues such as the situation around North Korea and Ukraine.
