BRUSSELS, Aug 4 – news, Maria Knyazev. The new law, US sanctions, including against Russia should get the EU to think about the consequences of reckless use of sanctions instruments, said in an interview with RIA Novosti Russia’s permanent representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov.

On Wednesday, the President of the United States Donald trump signed passed by the Congress a bill on new sanctions against Russia, Iran and North Korea. Congress had more than enough votes to override a possible presidential veto, and the President was largely forced to sign the bill. Thus a press-service of the White house issued two statements in which the President criticizes the document and explains why he still signed it.

“The whole story, I think, still needs to make the European Union and its member countries, and public opinion is to think about the consequences of reckless use of sanctions Toolbox”, — he said.

According to the Ambassador, if “somewhere that something does not happen, the first thing to cling to sanctions,” while no one can produce a successful impact of sanctions on the development of a crisis.

“Of course, think they think, but we must not fall into euphoria and expect the lifting of sanctions against Russia imposed by the European Union — it is the coming days. No. First and foremost, because the range of opinions of member countries in relation to Russia is and will remain for the foreseeable future. I will not say that forever, but in our century will suffice”, — summed up Chizhov.

He recalled that the recent enlargements of the European Union members resulted in a number of countries that entered there to “run away from Russia”.

In connection with the adoption of the US law on sanctions, the Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev said that Washington has declared Russia a full-fledged trade war. As the press-Secretary of Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that Russia will protect their interests.

Relations between Russia and the West deteriorated over the situation in Ukraine. Western countries have imposed a series of sanctions against Russia, Moscow has retaliated. While Moscow has repeatedly rejected accusations of Western countries meddling in the Affairs of Ukraine, stating that it is not a party to domestic conflict in the Donbass and the subject of the Minsk agreements on the settlement. Russia has also repeatedly said that talking with her in language of sanctions counterproductive.
