Japan is going to equip the army with offensive weapons
TOKYO, Aug 5 — RIA Novosti, Xenia Naka. The Ministry of defense of Japan, the head of which on Thursday was delivered by the Minister of Itsunori of Onodera will begin consideration of the need to equip the Japanese self-defense forces with weapons, able to strike at the enemy’s military bases, said the newspaper “nikkey” on Saturday.
The defense Ministry for the first time in the history of postwar Japan will start formal consideration of this issue. Still equipped with weapons of national defense forces were strictly only to ensure the security of the country and repel the attack of the enemy.
In 1956, Prime Minister Ichiro Hatoyama said that the country’s Constitution, renouncing war as a means of conflict resolution, at the same time, does not prescribe a “sit and wait, when we will destroy you.” Since that time, by default, meant the theoretical possibility of a strike on enemy bases, if there are no other ways to repel the attack.
However, so far Japan had offensive weapons such as Intercontinental missiles, strategic bombers or strike aircraft-carriers.
Consideration of the issue must be completed by the summer of next year as by the end of 2018, the Ministry of defence should prepare a medium-term directions for the development of defence for five years. In addition, the budget 2019 financial year (1 April 2019 — 31 March 2020) should be included on the General directions of development of the defence for 10 years.
