Brazil will propose to exclude Venezuela from MERCOSUR

MEXICO city, Aug 4 — RIA Novosti. Brazil will present a proposal to remove Venezuela from the southern common market (MERCOSUR) until the restoration of democracy in the country, said Friday the head of the Brazilian foreign Ministry, Aloisio Nunez.

“It is intolerable that we have on the South American continent to be a dictatorship. In Venezuela there is a violation of the democratic order, and, as a consequence, Brazil will propose that it was excluded from MERCOSUR until the return of democracy,” wrote Nunez in his microblog on Twitter.

Earlier, the President of Argentina Mauricio Macri said that the membership of Venezuela in MERCOSUR should be permanently suspended. In December 2016 decision of the remaining members of the organization Venezuela has been temporarily expelled from the regional bloc in connection with the failure of the norms of the organization.

Foreign Minister of Paraguay Eladio loizaga also announced that the MERCOSUR countries are studying the issue of the final exclusion from its ranks of Venezuela after the elections of the national constituent Assembly. It started on Friday and will have to prepare amendments to the Constitution of Venezuela.

On Saturday, Brazil will meet the foreign Ministers of the MERCOSUR countries, they will discuss the situation in Venezuela.

MERCOSUR — common market of South American countries uniting-Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil and Venezuela (joined in 2013). As a fully fledged Association was formed in 1991 when in the Paraguayan capital Asuncion was signed the agreement on creation of the customs Union and common market. MERCOSUR brings together 250 million people and more than 75% of the total GDP of the continent.
