The Governor of Sakhalin invited Japan to introduce three-day visa-free regime

The Sakhalin region Governor Oleg Kozhemyako at a meeting in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk with the Chairman of the Committee on foreign Affairs, house of representatives, Parliament of Japan, Muneo Suzuki made a proposal to introduce a three-day visa-free regime for Russians visiting Japan.

This is stated in the message published on the official website of the Governor of the Sakhalin region.

Earlier, Russia lifted visa requirements for Japanese tourists who come to Sakhalin by ferry Korsakov — Wakkanai and are on the island for up to 72 hours. After that, the Japanese side has simplified the procedure of issuing visas for Russians in Japan. According to Kozhemyako, the next logical step would be the adoption of a decision on visa-free entry to Japan for Russian tourists for a period up to 3 days.

The possibility of free cross-border travel between Sakhalin and Hokkaido in the end of last year discussed the two heads of state. I’m sure it will help more fully reveal the potential of cooperation in the field of tourism and business relations. Look forward to your cooperation in this matter.Oleg Karamanogullari Sakhalin region

In this case, according to Kozhemyako, Russians from different regions of the country will be able to visit Japan with “intermediate stop in Sakhalin”.
