The Kremlin said the results of Washington’s approval of Antonov

The press-Secretary of Russian leader Dmitry Peskov said that Vladimir Putin has not yet signed the decree about appointment of the new Ambassador of Russia in the United States. His words to the correspondent “Tapes.ru” on Friday, July 28.

“As you know, Ambassador is sent after signing by the President of the relevant decree. While no decree was not” — said the representative of the Kremlin, commenting on the message of the newspaper “Izvestia” that Washington gave the agrément for the appointment of Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Anatoly Antonov, the Russian head of the diplomatic mission in the United States.

According to “Izvestia”, Washington agreed to issue the approval after the meeting, Deputy foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov and us assistant Secretary of state Thomas Shannon. A source in the Central apparatus of the foreign Ministry clarified to the newspaper that now “remains to solve the questions connected with diplomatic visa”.

July 24, Peskov promised that the Kremlin will officially announce the name of the new Russian Ambassador to the United States as head of state “deems it appropriate”.

Candidate Antonov to the post of Russian Ambassador to USA was approved on may 18. He will replace on this post of Sergey Kislyak, who completed his mission in Washington on July 22.

Now the functions of chargé d’affaires of Russia in the USA performs the Counsellor Denis Gonchar.
