NASA will create an airplane to fly from London to new York in three hours

INTERFAX.RU — experts at the American space Agency NASA and aircraft manufacturers, Lockheed Martin are developing and Vertigogo supersonic aircraft that will be able to overcome more than 5.5 thousand miles separating London from new York in three hours and rise to a height of 16.7 km, according to the newspaper The Independent.

The publication notes that the engineers have calculated the maximum level produced by aircraft noise will not exceed 60-65 acoustic decibels.
The first tests of a small model airplane in a wind tunnel were conducted by Lockheed Martin and NASA in June of this year. Now NASA is looking for an investor who will be willing to invest in the development and testing of a full-size model plane for about $390 million over five years. In addition, funding for one year of work included in the budget plan of U.S. President Donald trump in fiscal 2018.
It is assumed that the length of the plane will amount to 28.6 meters, and it produces the noise is comparable in volume with the sound of the engine of luxury cars moving at high speed on the motorway. The cockpit will be designed for one person. The first test is scheduled for 2022.
In 2015, Airbus has received a patent on a supersonic passenger airliner “Concord-2”, which is able to fly from London to new York in one hour. According to the patent, “Concord-2” is designed for military purposes and it is not known whether to make it commercial flights. The cabin can accommodate 19 passengers.
Everything in the world for commercial transportation of passengers was used only two types of supersonic aircraft, however, they were both taken out of service after a disaster — the Soviet Tu-144 in 1978, the Anglo-French Concorde in 2003.
