Russian city managers will be taught modern principles of urban upgrading

The Ministry of construction and housing intends to teach the leaders of the Russian municipalities to modern principles of urban territories. This statement was made head of the Ministry Mikhail Men on the forum “United Russia” on this issue, “Interfax” on Monday, July 24.

According to Me, the programs for additional education of city managers will be prepared jointly with the Higher school of Economics.

“Experience suggests that when go to the region and especially the heads of municipalities asked: do you have any plans for these funds, it is not always some interesting, original solutions are offered, sometimes operate the old fashioned way — benches, flowers and lanterns. I think that people are absolutely not looking forward to it today,” — said the Minister.

At the end of may it was reported that the 29 municipalities of the Murmansk region from the Federal center provided 115 million rubles to support the development of a new urban environment. From the regional budget on these purposes it has been allocated more than 106 million rubles. The Governor of the region Marina Kovtun stressed that the improvement project is distinguished by the extensive involvement of the population. “The people may offer facilities for the improvement and get the latest information on all stages of the programs,” she said.
