MOSCOW, 24 Jul — RIA Novosti. The world’s oldest manatee died in USA in home aquarium the day after he turned 69 years, reported the South Florida Museum.

“The results of our preliminary investigations indicate that Snute died as a result of the harrowing incident, we are all devastated by his loss. Snute was a unique beast, he had so many individual characteristics that people simply couldn’t not experience attraction to him”, — stated in the message.

Manatee found in the underwater room, which is used only for access to the technical systems of the aquarium and the entrance to which is usually locked, but now for some reason was open.

The Museum adds that a full investigation of the circumstances of the death of manatee.

Snoti was born on 21 July 1946 at Miami Seaquarium. As noted in the message of the Museum, this was the first recorded birth of a manatee under human care.
