Alexei Pichugin

The former head of security service of Yukos, Alexei Pichugin denied clemency. About it RIA Novosti said the representative of the Commission on clemency in Orenburg region.

“The Commission concerning pardon in territory of the Orenburg region rejected the petition for clemency from the former head of security service Alexey Pichugin”, — he said.

Pichugin was several times requested clemency, each time, in his petition, he refused to admit his guilt.

The former head of the security service of the YUKOS oil company was sentenced to life in prison in 2007 after he was convicted of the murder of Nefteyugansk mayor Vladimir Petukhov, Director of the Moscow company “the Phoenix” Valentina Root and Tambov businessman Sergey Gorin and his wife. In addition, he was charged with the attempt on Olga Kostina, a former adviser on public Affairs to the former head of Yukos Mikhail Khodorkovsky, businessman Sergey Rybin.

Earlier, the presidential Council on human rights (HRC) has written to the Governor of the Orenburg region Yuri Berg letter with the request to support a petition for clemency Pichugin.

In October 2016 the mother of the convict Alla Pichugina appealed to President of Russia Vladimir Putin with the request to pardon her son.

Earlier this year, the European court of human rights ordered Russia to pay Pichugin 7.8 thousand euros as compensation for moral damage and 7.5 thousand euros for material costs. The court found merit in the complaint Pichugin non-observance of the presumption of innocence, and irregularities in the removal and study of the testimony of the local courts.
