Egypt opened the middle East’s largest military base

In the North of Egypt was opened after reconstruction of the largest in the Arab countries of the Middle East military base, according to the Egyptian al-Ahram.

In the opening ceremony of the modernized base was attended by the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Its reconstruction took place over the last two years. This time it was laid 70 km of additional roads rebuilt a few dozen of polygons and shooting ranges.

Base, founded in 1993, located in the region of El-Hammam, in the province of matrouh, West of Alexandria. It is named after the first President of Egypt Muhammad Naguib. The updated database will ensure the safety of construction specialists of “Rosatom” the region’s first nuclear plant in El-Dabaa, the nearby oil fields and the city of El Alamein. It is planned that the database will also be used to conduct international exercises.

The first Egyptian nuclear power plant at El-Dabaa will have four power units with Russian VVER-1200. In November 2015 Russia and Egypt signed an agreement under which Moscow will build and Finance the project, will prepare the Egyptian staff, will resolve the issues with spent nuclear fuel, and will also provide assistance in the development of nuclear infrastructure in the country. In may 2017, work began on the harmonization of the package of contracts.
