The Russian President thanked Israel for condemnation of the demolition of Soviet monuments

The Russian authorities are grateful to the Israel, which condemned the government’s decision to demolish all the Soviet monuments. This was stated by President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, July 20, reports “Interfax”.

He stressed that this reaction is particularly notable against the background of a rethinking of the course of world war II in some Eastern European countries.

“We are grateful to those who in Israel, gives the correct historical evaluation of all these events, condemns the demolition of monuments to Soviet soldiers,” — said Putin at the meeting of the Council for interethnic relations.

On the eve of the state Duma and Knesset Israel simultaneously made an appeal to European parliaments to condemn the actions of Warsaw, created on 17 July, the demolition of “glorifying the totalitarian system” of Soviet monuments. The document prepared in the lower house of the Russian Parliament, the MPs call on colleagues to take measures to preserve the memory of the heroism of Soviet soldiers-liberators.

On the same day the speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko said that the Russian foreign Ministry was preparing a response.
