In the state Duma a bill to toughen penalties for recruiting into the ranks of terrorists, in particular, the imposition of a life prison term. It is reported by TASS on Thursday, July 20.
Corresponding changes are proposed in the article 205.1 of the criminal code (“Assistance of terrorist activity”).
“It is unacceptable that every day around the world recruitment are exposed to more than one thousand people. For these purposes, spent a lot of money. For each brought into the ranks of terrorists, the recruiter gets a Commission,” — said the author of the initiative, the first Deputy Chairman of the faction “United Russia”, Adalbi Shhagoshev in the explanatory Memorandum.
The bill is aimed at strengthening the fight against recruitment or other involvement of a person in extremist and terrorist activities in General, the document says.
Currently the maximum sentence for recruiting terrorists for 10 years. In addition, the offender shall pay a penalty of up to five hundred thousand rubles or the salary or other income for a period up to three years.
On the eve of the lower house of Parliament in the third and final reading adopted amendments to the laws “On citizenship of the Russian Federation” and “On legal status of foreign citizens in the Russian Federation”. Under amendments, if a person has committed a terrorist act or was convicted of hostage-taking, sabotage, organization of illegal armed formation, the decision on granting Russian citizenship can be cancelled.
