In the state Duma a draft law obliging to undergo a medical examination and treatment of alcoholics who have committed certain administrative or criminal violations. This was announced by first Deputy Chairman of the Committee on health of the lower chamber Nikolay Govorin, reports on Thursday, July 20, RIA Novosti.
According to him, the country has a growing number of people with alcohol dependence who do not want to be treated.
The data confirmed Director of the National scientific narcology centre of the Federal medical research centre of psychiatry and addiction psychiatry Serbsky, Ministry of health of Russia Tatyana Klimenko.
“Those who have had at least some understanding has already been treated, have received assistance. And now accumulates a very heavy contingent — these are the patients who don’t just abuse alcohol, and those who often commit administrative and criminal offenses in the state of alcoholic intoxication,” — said Klimenko.
It endorsed the future the bill, stressing that the practice of compulsory treatment is widely used in the West: two-thirds of all treated for alcoholism do it by court order.
On 30 June reported on the project to identify alcoholics and drug addicts among the patients of hospitals and clinics. The proposal came from Deputy Minister of health Tatiana Yakovleva. According to her, the program will operate throughout the country. It is going to run until the end of 2017.
