MOSCOW, 19 Jul — RIA Novosti. The Federation Council approved on Wednesday at a meeting of the Protocol to the agreement with Syria about the location of the aviation group of the Russian Armed forces on the territory of this country.
The document regulates the issues of deployment of a Russian air group of the armed forces, its movable and immovable property on the territory of Syria, as well as issues relating to its functioning. In addition, clarifies the status of the personnel of the air group, members of their families, as well as the competent authorities of the Russian side.
According to the Protocol, the term of the agreement is changed from indefinite to 49 years. This provides for its automatic renewal for further periods of 25 years, if neither party notified the intention to terminate the agreement less than one year before the expiration of the next period.
