Presidential adviser on climate change warned of a new natural anomalies

VYTEGRA (Vologda oblast), 15 Jul — RIA Novosti. Weather anomalies that occur this summer, in the future, may be repeated more frequently, according to the presidential adviser on climate change Alexander Bedritsky.

“We are seeing abnormal phenomena, when the weather is unstable. 2017 is an example of such situations that can be repeated more often,” said he, addressing the forum of the Russian emergencies Ministry and NGOs “Society for security” in Vytegra.

Bedritsky said that because of a warming Arctic temperature contrast between the poles and equator is reduced. “This leads to increases in regional atmospheric processes. Region temperature anomalies in the ocean surface also contributes to the atmosphere blocking processes, including in the Atlantic and European sector,” he said, explaining that this leads to a sharp change in the weather.

The expert believes that it is important to consider the climatic factor in the implementation of measures on providing of hydrometeorological and ecological safety. “It is a necessary condition to ensure the reduction of risks for life and for rescue operations,” he said.

Another important task Bedritsky called the study of ice cover of the Arctic ocean and its influence on atmospheric cyclones.
