Having studied rhythmic characteristics of singing common Nightingale, German scientists have found that in order to attract the attention of the listeners, the Nightingale can slow down and speed up the rhythm of their songs. Preprint of the article is available on the bioRxiv site.

The objective of any musical work is to influence the perception of their listeners to attract their attention, to make people think and feel. According to music psychologists, music makes it attractive to a rapidly oscillating the predictability of the alternation of simple, stereotypical motifs and unexpected accents that can cause stress. This can be achieved by alternating the overall melody works with offsets pace: his acceleration (accelerando) and deceleration (ritardando).
