Solovki can enter the list of UNESCO world heritage

In the near future, experts from UNESCO, ICOMOS and ICCROM will visit Solovetsky archipelago.

TASS, July 13. / Experts of UNESCO, the International Council on monuments and sites (ICOMOS) and the International research centre on preservation and restoration of cultural property (ICCROM) will come to the Solovetsky archipelago in the context of possible inclusion in the world heritage list of UNESCO. This was announced Thursday in a press-service of the government of the Arkhangelsk region, which includes the Solovetsky Islands.

“From 2 to 12 July in Krakow (Poland) hosted the 41st session of the world heritage Committee of UNESCO. One of the objects, which were considered at the forum, was the historical and cultural complex Solovetsky Islands. International experts positively assessed the work carried out to give the Solovetsky archipelago, the status of places of interest. Also, the session adopted a decision on direction in the near future a joint mission of UNESCO, ICOMOS and ICCROM on the Solovetsky archipelago”, — said the press service, noting that the exact date of the arrival of international experts in the Arkhangelsk region will become known soon.
