NASA took video of the movement of large sunspots

MOSCOW, 12 APR — RIA Novosti. Space Agency NASA has posted on YouTube footage of the motion of large spots on the surface of the Sun.

The footage was obtained by the solar dynamics Observatory (Solar Dynamics Observatory) of NASA in the period 5 to 11 July. Although the video spot seems relatively small, it is larger than our planet, said researchers.

During the download an error has occurred.

This spot was the first that appeared on the visible part of the sun for two days. During times of low solar activity similar phenomena occur less often than usual. Although the spot may cause a solar flare to speak about it with confidence it is still too early, say at NASA.

The sun is experiencing alternating periods of growth and decline in activity, alternating with a period of approximately 11 years. In the growth period of activity on the Sun significantly more likely outbreaks occur, there are “coronal holes” — areas with high speed solar wind — and emissions of plasma, which cause magnetic storms on Earth.

The main indicator of the level of activity lights is the number of sunspots. They appear often with peaks of activity and much less — in the calm in the Sun.
