Tillerson: the US special envoy on Ukraine was appointed on request of Putin

The special representative of the United States Ukraine Kurt Volker was appointed to the state Department at the request of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

This was reported to journalists on Friday U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson.

“At the request of President Putin, the United States appointed a special representative for Ukraine, Kurt Volker,” he said.

Walker previously held the post of U.S. permanent representative to NATO. “Kurt’s wealth of experience and his expertise will allow him to direct [the settlement process] of the conflict [in Ukraine] in a peaceful way. The United States remains committed to the full implementation of the provisions of the Minsk agreements, and I’m sure Kurt will help our efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine,” cited earlier, the press service of the foreign Ministry of the word Tillerson.

As earlier told reporters a senior state Department official, “all members of the Normandy format – France, Germany, Ukraine and Russia – have expressed their desire to have an American partner with whom they can work in the negotiations. Not as a member of the Normandy format, but as with [the provider] important support for this format, associate [authorized representatives] of the countries leading the negotiations on the implementation of the Minsk agreement. There is broad support for their American engagement, and we are currently studying how best to support the Normandy format and Minsk talks”, – said the diplomat.
