In the United States robot R2-D2 from “Star wars” was sold at auction for $2.76 million

MOSCOW, 29 Jun — RIA Novosti. The robot R2-D2 from the legendary Saga “Star wars” sold at auction in the US for 2.76 million dollars, reports the associated Press.

The organizers of the auction house Profiles in History in Calabasas (California) reported that the robot has become the top lot of the auction. Who became the owner of R2-D2, is not specified.

The auction also presented were the lightsaber of the Jedi Luke Skywalker from the first two episodes, pushed under the hammer for 450 thousand dollars and a Darth Vader helmet, sold for 96 thousand dollars.

“Star wars” was invented by the American Director George Lucas in the early 1970-ies. Six episodes of the Saga was released in 1977, 1980, 1983, 1999, 2002 and 2003. In October 2013, Lucas sold Lucasfilm for $ 4,05 billion of the Walt Disney Corporation. Then it became known that Disney planned a sequel to “Star wars.”
