In the Federation Council discuss the issue of blocking has violated Russian law by foreign media

According to Senator Andrey Klimov, it is necessary to oblige the media to disclose their sources of funding and to report on its activities in accordance with the law on foreign agents.

MOSCOW, June 28. /TASS. Senators are discussing a resolution to block foreign media broadcasting in Russia, for violation of the Russian legislation. This was stated to journalists by the head of temporary Commission of the Federation Council for the protection of state sovereignty and prevent interference in the internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Andrey Klimov.

“[Should] provide a legal framework which will allow you to adjust the Russian-language media, having an audience in Russia, even if they are registered abroad. To oblige the media to disclose their sources of funding at the request of the Ministry of justice and to report on its activities in accordance with the law on foreign agents”, — said Klimov, noting that these initiatives are now being considered.

According to Klimov, the senators are also considering giving the justice Ministry the right to conduct an investigation to determine the sources of financing of mass-media registered on the territory of Russia. “If will be found sources of foreign funding and [the signs] activities in the interests of a foreign state, to oblige the media to report on its activities in accordance with the law on foreign agents”, he added.

Klimov said that these recommendations were prepared after last Tuesday’s closed part of the meeting of the Commission.

Interim Commission of the Federation Council for the protection of state sovereignty and prevent interference in the internal Affairs of the Russian Federation established by resolution of the Council of 14 June 2017. The Commission included ten senators representing various committees of the upper chamber. Tasks of the Commission are to prepare proposals on changing Russian legislation in the sphere of protection of sovereignty of the Russian Federation, as well as monitoring the activities of foreign States and international organizations to intervene in Russian internal political processes. The Commission shall hold meetings not less than once every quarter; in addition, it is anticipated the meetings of the working groups, hearings and round tables on specific issues.
