In Germany, the secret services allowed to break the messengers not only to combat terrorism

Experts and human rights activists fear that this will lead to the violation of the right to inviolability of private data.

BERLIN, June 22. /TASS/. The Bundestag on Thursday gave the intelligence services of Germany additional opportunities for surveillance of correspondence by messengers like WhatsApp.

Now, the relevant authorities will be able to use technical means to read messages for the investigation of crimes such as murder, tax evasion, or counterfeiting.

Previously, the program for deciphering the encrypted messages by messengers could only be applied in the case of counter-terrorism. The bill was approved in the second and third readings by the votes of the ruling coalition (CDU/CSU and the Social democratic party of Germany). The opposition (green and Left party) had opposed it.

The bill says that now can be “implemented in used by the defendants in the information technology system.”

Experts and human rights activists fear that the empowerment of the security services will lead to the violation of the right to inviolability of private data.
