China has offered to put people in prison for singing in inappropriate places

China can impose a penalty for the performance of the national anthem of the country under inappropriate circumstances and at inappropriate places. The authors of the document propose to prohibit the performance of “March of the volunteers” in the wrong circumstances — for example, at funerals or as background music.

About it reports The South China Morning Post.

The corresponding bill in the first reading is now considering the standing Committee of vsekitajsky meeting of national representatives.

The authors of the document propose to prohibit the performance of “March of the volunteers” at the funeral or as background music in public places and in advertising.

According to legislators, it detracts from the grandeur of the national anthem of the PRC.

Recording of the anthem is permitted to do only firms that have received special permission from the authorities, is not allowed inappropriate behavior during a performance of “March”. Violation of the rules of performance or unauthorized changes to the text, aimed at reducing the degree of solemnity, it is offered to punish imprisonment for the term up to 15 days. As explained by the authors of the bill, these measures should contribute to the rise of patriotism in the society.

The publication connects the introduction of the bill with a number of scandals involving Hong Kong fans. In particular, in November 2016 during the national anthem at a football match between North Korea and Hong Kong last fans chanted: “We are Hong Kong!”.

“March of the volunteers” was written in 1935 during the Sino-Japanese war. In 1949, he became the temporary national anthem of the PRC, but during the cultural revolution 1966-76 years, it virtually replaced the song “the East is Red”. In 1982, “March of the volunteers” was officially recognized as the anthem of China.
