The Strasbourg court considered a tool of demonizing Russia

Leonid Slutsky

The judgment of the European court of human rights (ECHR) regarding the discriminatory nature of the Russian law banning gay propaganda among minors was political in nature, said the head of the Duma Committee on international Affairs Leonid Slutsky. His words are in the statement, received by the editors”.ru” on Tuesday, June 20.

“This is not the first situation over the years of our membership in the Council of Europe, the ECHR accepts, frankly, politically motivated decisions against Russia. (…) All it says about the bias of the Strasbourg court,” — said the MP.

He expressed regret that the international judicial body “is used as a tool of artificial demonizing of Russia”. Slutsky said that Moscow will continue to oppose “the imposition of an alien family values and will not allow you to cripple the minds of the younger generation.”

Earlier Tuesday, the ECHR ruled the law banning gay propaganda, a violation of the right to freedom of expression and a tool of infringement of the rights of gays. Thus, the court upheld the complaint of activists of the LGBT movement Nikolai Baev, Nikolai Alexeev and Alexey Kiselev, who was involved in Russia responsible for the promotion of non-traditional relationships.

The Ministry of justice of Russia has criticized the ECHR ruling and vowed to appeal the verdict.
