In London can demolish all residential high-rise 70-ies

MOSCOW, 18 Jul — RIA Novosti. The mayor of London Sadiq Khan said that after the tragic fire in the social residential building, built in 1974, the authorities can make a decision on the demolition of skyscrapers built in the 60-70-ies of the last century.

“Significant effects of the tragedy can eventually affect the architectural appearance of our cities. After the war, hurrying to rebuild the country, we have built many tall buildings, most of which have survived until now. Now we would not have to think about the construction of these buildings according to the standards of the 1970-ies, but their inhabitants still have to live with this legacy. Determining the outcome of this tragedy may be that the worst mistakes of the 1960s and 1970s years, will be demolished. Of course, this should mean that people will be resettled in the same areas in which they’ve sprouted roots,” the mayor wrote in the article published Sunday in the Observer newspaper.

According to him, the British authorities decided to compile a list of high-rise residential buildings, similar to that in which the fire occurred. “Now we need to carry out their certification and, if necessary, to make them safe,” said the mayor.

A fire in a 24-storey social apartment house in a not very prosperous area of London — North Kensington — occurred in the night of Wednesday. Killed at least 30 people (the media say about 70), 24 of the injured are in hospitals, 12 of them are in critical condition. According to firefighters, about 120 families have been affected by fire. As have informed on Saturday to journalists the representative of police of London Stewart Kandy, the number of missing persons is 58.
