The government has allocated 314 million rubles for the protection of lake Baikal

Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree on the allocation of 313,77 million rubles for the reconstruction of the right Bank of sewage treatment facilities of Ulan-Ude. The document was signed on 9 June.

The reconstruction provided by the Federal target program “Protection of lake Baikal and socio-economic development of the Baikal natural territory for 2012-2020”.

On the government website States that the decision will help to reduce the volume of wastewater discharges into the lake and improve the ecological situation in the city.

As reported by “Kommersant”, the Ministry of natural resources hope to solve the problem of pollution of lake Baikal by the construction of sewage treatment plants in Ulan-Ude. Regional authorities estimate the project cost 2.7 billion rubles, according to other estimates, the cost of sewage treatment plants can reach 8 billion. However, environmentalists believe that urban runoff is not the only source of pollution.
