The EU needs to issue biometric passports to residents of Donbass and Crimea

MOSCOW, 9 Aug — RIA Novosti. The head of the EU delegation in Ukraine hug Mingarelli said that Kyiv should issue biometric passports to residents of DND and LNR and Crimea, UNIAN reports.

According to Mingarelli, the EU does not support the idea of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to give the citizens living on these territories, only a passport of the old sample and thereby deprive them of the opportunity to travel without visas to Europe.

“That is not our understanding,” — said Mingarelli. He noted that the EU has communicated to the Ukrainian authorities.

The decision on granting Ukrainian citizens the right to visa-free travel to the EU was published on 22 may in the EU official journal, it will enter into force on 11 June.

Earlier, Poroshenko ordered the Ukrainian passport of the old sample to residents of the breakaway LC and the DNI and the Russian Crimea, which Kiev believes her, but the “temporarily occupied” territory. About whether Kiev will resume the payment of pensions and salaries of public sector employees in the DNI and LC, which was terminated in 2014, the President is not mentioned.
